The history of the original Friedr. Dick company began in 1778. When the company was founded as a file cutting workshop in the southern German town of Esslingen, it made the claim to support quality workmanship in Germany and the rest of the world – and this goal was achieved. As a result, the former craftsman's shop grew to become an innovative industrial company with its headquarters in Deizisau and remained true to its roots despite worldwide success. In 2018 the traditional company Friedr. Dick celebrated its 240th anniversary.

145 years of experience in the manufacturing of sharpening steels makes Friedr. Dick an absolute professional in the area of sharpening. The production, consisting of traditional manual work and modern production technology, is a decisive factor for the outstanding quality, functionality and performance associated with the “made in Germany” sharpening steels. Friedr. Dick is taking the occasion of the 145th anniversary of sharpening steel production and the 240th anniversary since the founding of the company to offer a special limited edition model.

The anniversary sharpening steel has an oak handle in a historic design and is fitted with the legendary DICKORON sharpening steel blade. It enables silky-soft honing with its special sapphire cut. The oval shape of the blade provides large contact for the knife and therefore more effective grinding results.

The special pear-shaped handle design sits comfortably and safely in your hand. Each anniversary sharpening steel gets a consecutive number and an anniversary marking on the blade. The demands of upmarket hotels and restaurants served as a key benchmark in the design of this small tool. The plating tongs with a practical size of 20 cm and an angled shape are ideal for serving and garnishing but also for other small jobs in the kitchen where precision and accuracy are required. The plating tongs are also essential for decorating dishes with herbs or flowers. The angled shape makes them easier to hold and position without your hand coming into contact with the plate. This means that work can be even more precise and neater.

Anyone who loves meat will also love HEKTOR. The knife is ideal for cutting larger pieces of meat and fish, but also perfect as a “brisket knife” for the BBQ area. The long curved blade is perfect especially when cutting brisket – namely, beef brisket cooked in hot smoke – because it can achieve a long drawn cut. You can also cut large pieces easily and without needing to take a break. The Kullenschliff reduces the amount of food that sticks to the blade. The HEKTOR knife is not only attractive due to its excellent functionality but also because of its clean and impressive design. The splendid 26 cm long curved blade and its uncompromising sharpness make HEKTOR an indispensable kitchen and barbecue tool.

Friedr. Dick cooking and barbecue enthusiasts from all over the world were involved in the naming process through social networking sites. The name “HEKTOR” was finally chosen from over 500 different name suggestions – inspired by the warrior Hector who is well-known from Greek mythology. Hector was a noble and great military leader and therefore one of the strongest warriors in the battle of Troy.
