The Internet portal www.vergleich.org is one of the largest online test magazines in Germany with over 3.4 million users.Various sharpening steels were tested and compared there in November 2017. The RegularCut sharpening steel from the quality market leader Friedr. Dick prevailed over all the other sharpening steels that were tested and emerged as the test winner with an overall score of 1.2.
Vergleich.org collects professional reviews and test reports from reputable test sources (including Stiftung Warentest, Finanztest, Ökotest, CHIP etc.) and compares them with customer reviews from online retailers. Parameters, such as topicality, popularity, functionality and price, with different weightings are also included in the results of the comparison. Furthermore, it also includes the editors’ rating, resulting from the in-depth testing.
The Friedr. Dick sharpening steel was given a new two-component handle at the beginning of 2018. Hard and soft plastic is combined in the new handle so it is not just robust and durable but also rests safely and comfortably in your hand.

The German Design Award is one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world. Friedr. Dick measured itself against the best in the industry in the competition and was assessed by the international panel of experts.
The nomination for the award itself is a prestigious honour as only companies selected and nominated by the Design Council are allowed to take part in the competition. Products are nominated that stand out because of their particular creative, design and brand competence. This independent panel of experts is made up of representatives from industry, universities and design as well as members of the Design Council. CUT! from F. Dick won through against the other nominated companies and received the German Design Award 2017 and a special mention in the “Books” and Calendars” category for outstanding design quality.
GOLD Catering Star for F. Dick's herb and parmesan cheese knife!
More than 300 readers from the “Catering Inside” magazine voted on the most successful new convenience and kitchen technology products and services for the catering market again in 2016. The herb and parmesan cheese knife from F. Dick's 1905 Design series was awarded the GOLD Catering Star in the “Kitchen Accessories & Other Kitchen Technology” category.
The herb and parmesan cheese knife combines all of the characteristics that are essential for professionally cutting herbs. The round shape and the knife's curved cutting edge make "pinch" cuts easy, creating evenly cut herbs. The wide flat surface of the blade is indispensable for the "claw grip," which holds the herbs in place while cutting, and facilitates guidance of the knife. In addition, the herb and parmesan cheese knife is a comfortable size, with a blade length of 12 cm.

Carving knife is awarded Gold at the KÜCHE Award 2015
Friedr. Dick is reviving an old tried-and-tested butcher's knife design and enhancing its popular and successful 1905 series with a curved blade carving knife – awarded a "gold" medal at the KÜCHE Award 2015.
This special style of blade has already been used in kitchens and butcher's shops since the end of the 19th century. The curved blade design makes the cutting edge longer than when using a straight knife easily achieving a long drawn cut. Friedr. Dick has now taken this style of knife and enhanced its 1905 design series with this unique product offering. The 1905 Series continues to stand out with its exceptional design. Friedr. Since 2006, the Huber Verlag für Neue Medien GmbH and the Initiative Mittelstand have been awarding the INDUSTRIEPREIS annually to the best and the most progressive industrial companies. The award enjoys a very high reputation, thanks to its large and top class jury of experts, made up of professors, scientists, representatives from industry and specialist journalists. The products and solutions that are submitted are evaluated by the jury according to a defined number of criteria. These include the innovation factor (newness, product maturity and forward-looking characteristics), the benefits (identifiable benefits, contribution to profitability, efficiency increases) and its suitability for the Mittelstand (relevance, practicability, implementation). Decisive criteria for the jury's decision are the economic, social, ecological or technological benefits. Confirmed as an innovative and ground-breaking solution
The coveted industry prize, the Fleischerei Technik Award, has been awarded for the third time by the trade magazines Fleischerei Technik and Fleischer Handwerk. As in the past, ground-breaking developments and outstanding innovations were honoured with the award. When it came to choosing their winners, the jury of experts, made up of scientists and editorial staff, were looking for factors such as quality improvements, cost reductions, sustainability and efficient process design. From the large number of entries, the top innovations were grouped under eight categories. With their RFID system, Friedr.Dick was awarded the Fleischerei Technik Award in the "Quality Management" category.

tests our Premier Plus Chef's Knife and is convinced!
A total of 20 knives from the categories of "Classic Chef's Knife", "Santoku Knife" and "Ceramic Knife" were examined carefully by the testers at Stiftung Warentest. A variety of foods were cut in order to simulate the real conditions in professional and consumer’s kitchens: Tomatoes, carrots, celery root, pineapple, mangos, various herbs, hazelnuts and braised pork loins.
The knife's cutting performance was awarded the highest achievable grade of 60% in the Stiftung Warentest test rating. Both the sharpness and cutting quality as well as the ergonomicswere pronounced as significant. The knifes durability is integrated in the overall rating receiving a score of 30%. This includes, remove for instance, the edge retention of the blade, the resistance of the blade against cracks and the breaking strength of the blade. The cleaning characteristics of the knife is the third criteria that is rated by the testers and is integrated in the test rating with 10%. The cleaning-friendly workmanship as well as the required manual cleaning effort is tested in this category.
Our 21 cm Chef's Knife from the forged Premier Plus series was a winner in all areas and was given a rating of "good" (1.9) by the testers.

Every year the Messer Magazin (German Knife Magazine ) awards a "Knife of the Year" in the following categories: fixed knife, pruning knife and kitchen knife. There is no jury to decide on whether a knife is successful or not; instead the readers of the Messer Magazin choose their favourite from all three categories. There was a choice of 14 knives from well-known manufacturers from all over the world in the kitchen knife category. The Santoku from the new Red Spirit series from Friedr. Dick won through with the readers and was awarded third place.

The reason: no other design award sets such strict criteria on entries. Another precondition for entry is that companies must have been nominated by the Ministries and Senators of the Federal States or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

The red dot design award, the origins of which go back to 1955, is one of the largest and most renowned design competitions worldwide. It consists of the individual disciplines “red dot award: product design”, “red dot award: communication design”, and “red dot award: design concepts”, which has been held annually in Singapore since 2005. In 2007 the competition recorded more than 7,000 entries from 60 nations.
2008, the Knife Series 1893 received the Design Plus Award Ambiente 2008
The Design Plus award is a title awarded by an international jury of recognised experts to the winners among all the entries sent in by the exhibitors at the Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt. Altogether, 200 companies applied with 613 products and product series to be considered for the much sought-after award, which honours the best of design in the consumer goods sector. The awarded products will be presented at the Museum for Applied Arts, Frankfurt a.M., Germany.
