On the trail of VIVUM – Brian Bojsen in our knife production

How is our new VIVUM knife actually made? What does forged mean? Brian Bojsen sets out with us to retrace the origins of VIVUM – pure nature.

Last year, we introduced VIVUM, a new, extraordinary knife series. That's why Brian Bojsen was thoroughly impressed when he first held the knives in his hands. The Danish chef, photographer and adventurer loves to be outside, cooking in nature over an open fire and seeking out his own ingredients. Whether hunting or fishing, the globetrotter is always on the lookout for the best ingredients and most exciting places. For many years, he has also relied on F. DICK for his knives. With the VIVUM knives – in particular the handy utility knife – he has now found his new favourite knife. But his curiosity continues. What are the origins of the knife and what steps are necessary before he can hold the finished gem in his hands?

VIVUM knives are something very special. However, not only the design and appearance of the knives are impressive, but also the "inner values" are right. This starts with the selection of the raw material and runs through all the production steps. We invited Brian Bojsen to take a look behind the scenes and see how the VIVUM knives are produced in Deizisau.

The most important thing is evident right at the start of production: steel. The high-alloy, stainless steel is something very special and the special hardening process makes the VIVUM knives incredibly sharp, corrosion-resistant and robust, but also easy to sharpen. Each blade goes into the hardening oven and is then ice hardened at a temperature as low as -100°C. This further optimises the material structure. After each production step, the blades are inspected by experienced knife experts.

But what would the knife blade be without a handle that not only fits perfectly in the hand, but also looks stylish? The handles of our VIVUM knives are made of selected birch wood and are ground into shape and rounded by hand. The result? Perfectly sharp and long-lasting professional knives.

And because our VIVUM series has such a strong reference to freedom, nature and sustainability, we have opted for sustainable, plastic-free packaging. Then the knives are only put into storage until they make their way to dealer partners all over the world.

Are you also looking for a special knife that will assist you with your cooking and barbecue adventures? Then the VIVUM series is the right one for you. See for yourself, choose from six special blade shapes: a large bread knife, the classic chef's knife, a Santoku with a Kullenschliff, the utility knife with a serrated edge, the handy pairing knife and last but not least the ASADOR BBQ knife.
